Choate's Mergers & Acquisitions Practice Receives Top Tier 1 National Ranking

Choate announced today that its Mergers & Acquisitions practice has received a top Tier 1 national ranking for Middle-Market M&A (sub-$500m) from The Legal 500, a guide to the preeminent law firms in the US.  Choate also received top rankings for its Venture Capital and Emerging Companies practice, Private Equity Buyouts Group and Insurance & Reinsurance Group.

According to The Legal 500, “Choate is experienced in representing acquirers, targets, financing sources and investment bankers in public and private M&A, both at domestic and international levels with major deals.”  The Legal 500 added that Choate “has a strong bench of supporting specialists in corporate, securities, private equity, finance, tax, antitrust, employment, IP, environmental and real estate law.”  The Tier 1 M&A ranking specifically mentioned Choate’s M&A attorneys, Stephen Cohen, William Gelnaw and Robert Jahrling.

Choate’s premier Venture Capital and Emerging Companies practice was recognized for its “high-volume of equity financings and growth equity deals for start-ups and growth enterprises.” The Legal 500 noted that “technology and life sciences are its core sectors, with Stephen Cohen, Brian Lenihan and T.J. Murphy covering mainstream private equity deals, growth equity and classic venture capital financings.”

According to The Legal 500, Choate’s Private Equity Buyouts Group was noteworthy for the “sheer breadth of the practice,” citing transactions in the UK, Ireland, Australia and Mexico as well as a number of deals in Canada, “where its record is unrivaled.”  Choate has “a particularly strong record in healthcare and technology deals, but also broader sectors such as media” and “co-chair of the private equity group Stephen Cohen has a strong profile within the industry, along with fellow co-chair Brian Lenihan and T.J. Murphy.”

Choate’s Insurance and Reinsurance Group also received a Tier 2 national ranking, with The Legal 500 noting that the firm is regularly sought out for “matters of the highest significance and complexity.”  David Attisani, co-chair of Choate’s Insurance & Reinsurance Group, was one of only 11 attorneys in the country named to the elite “Leading Insurance Lawyers” list in the reinsurance category.  Attisani was singled out as an “extremely effective reinsurance dispute lawyer” who is able to “provide a responsive service and imaginative advice.”
