Choate announced today that two attorneys from the firm – John R. Pitfield and A. Hugh Scott – have been named “2013 Client Service All-Stars” by The BTI Consulting Group, Inc. for their client focus, exceptional understanding of the client’s business, outsized value, legal skills and outstanding results.

Pitfield and Scott were among 307 attorneys selected nationwide for the “2013 Client Service All Stars” list.  Pitfield was one of only 24 M&A attorneys honored and Scott was one of only 11 insurance industry attorneys recognized.

The BTI Consulting Group interviewed over 240 corporate counsel from large and Fortune 1000 companies on all aspects of client relationships.  As part of this independent survey, corporate counsel are asked to provide names, without prompting, of attorneys who exceed expectations and deliver unparalleled client service.

“Providing exceptional and seamless service to our clients is one of Choate’s core values so we are especially proud of John and Hugh for being singled out by in-house counsel for this elite list,” said William Gelnaw and John Nadas, Choate's Co-Managing Partners.  “John and Hugh truly exemplify the client service and work ethic we strive to achieve every day for each and every one of our clients.”

At Choate, Pitfield focuses his practice on corporate & securities, including public offerings, tender offers and debt and equity financings for both US and Canadian companies.  He also handles corporate transactions for public and private companies, mergers, acquisitions, leveraged buyouts and going private transactions for companies in a broad spectrum of industries.  Pitfield received his LLB from the University of Toronto Law School in 1997 and his BA, first class distinction, from Queen’s University in 1994.  He is a member of the firm’s Hiring Committee.

Scott handles complex litigation of all types at Choate.  His insurance & reinsurance practice includes litigation and arbitration on behalf of insurance company disputes regarding coverage for a variety of claims such as hazardous waste sites, asbestos, business disparagement and directors & officers liability.  He served as head of the firm’s Litigation Department for most of the 1990s.  Scott also spent five years as an Assistant US Attorney in the District of Massachusetts.  He received his JD from Columbia University School of Law in 1974, where he was a James Kent Scholar, and his BA, cum laude, from Williams College in 1968.
