Choate Lands Three Prominent Private Equity Partners

Choate today announced that three high profile private equity attorneys – Stephen O. Meredith, Sarah N.A. Camougis and Christopher W. Nelson – have joined the firm’s Private Equity Group as partners.  All three attorneys were previously with Locke Lord LLP.

“We are thrilled to have these highly regarded partners join our thriving private equity practice,” said Bill Gelnaw, Choate’s co-managing partner.  “These additions are consistent with our overall strategy of continuing to add market leading talent and depth in our core areas.  Our new partners bring deep experience and significant relationships, and have particular experience in the technology, media and telecommunications space.”

Choate’s Private Equity Group brings to bear over 50 lawyers who have handled a broad range of middle market M&A and investment transactions in recent years.  The firm has a long-standing, national reputation as a “go-to” firm for middle-market M&A transactions, and is ranked as a Tier 1 firm in Middle-Market M&A by The 2015 Legal 500.  Choate is also ranked by the 2015 edition of Chambers USA as one of the leading practices for Private Equity Buyouts and Corporate/M&A.

Meredith brings deep experience to his new role at Choate.  He has led teams of lawyers in virtually every kind of corporate transaction, both within the US and internationally.  Meredith was a corporate partner and member of the Private Equity and Venture Capital Group and Technology, Media and Telecommunications Group at his prior firm.  He was one of the two co-founders of the Boston office of Edwards & Angell, a predecessor to Locke Lord.  His clients include several blue chip private equity and venture capital funds and portfolio companies, as well as other public and private companies and management teams.  He has been ranked by Chambers for his work in private equity, and has been listed repeatedly in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers.

Camougis advises private and public companies, private equity and venture capital funds, angel investors and management teams in a wide range of industries in the US, Canada and Europe.  She was co-chair of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Group at her prior firm and a partner in the Corporate and Transactional Department and Private Equity and Venture Capital Group.  Sarah is a founder and board member of the Women’s Association of Venture & Equity, a national networking organization for women in venture capital and private equity.

Nelson focuses his practice on guiding growth equity, venture capital, buyout and other private funds through investments in and acquisitions of prospective portfolio companies, and on advising other growth companies.  He previously served as co-chair of the Private Equity and Venture Capital Group at his prior firm and brings to Choate a broad range of experience in counseling institutional investors, companies and entrepreneurs in a variety of business transactions.
