David Attisani Named Elite “Leading Insurance Lawyer” for Fifth Consecutive Year by The Legal 500

Choate announced today that David A. Attisani, co-chair of the firm’s Insurance & Reinsurance Group, has been named a “Leading Insurance Lawyer” by The Legal 500, a guide to the preeminent law firms in the United States. Attisani was one of only 12 attorneys in the country named to the elite “Leading Lawyers” list in the reinsurance category. This is the fifth consecutive year that Attisani has been named a “Leading Lawyer” by the publication.

Choate’s Insurance & Reinsurance Group also ranked as one of the top practices in the US for its coverage of “complex litigation, arbitration and bankruptcy proceedings for insurers, reinsurers and intermediaries on a national and international scale.” Other recommended Choate lawyers include co-chair Robert Kole and Hugh Scott.

As co-chair of Choate’s internationally recognized Insurance & Reinsurance Group, Attisani directs more than 20 insurance/reinsurance lawyers who represent national and multinational insurers, reinsurers, and intermediaries in complex litigation, arbitration, and bankruptcy proceedings.  The Group serves clients across the US, and abroad in the UK, continental Europe, Bermuda, and other offshore locations.  Attisani focuses his practice on insurance coverage and reinsurance arbitration and litigation on behalf of reinsurers, cedents and intermediaries; risk management; alternative dispute resolution; and arbitration and litigation for insurance companies involving coverage disputes.  He is co-chairman of the American Bar Association’s Reinsurance Subcommittee, is a member of the ARIAS-US Education Committee, and is a fellow in the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel.  He served as the editor of the 2012 Appleman Reinsurance Treatise.

In 2014, Attisani was the first ever Boston-area attorney to be recognized in the Chambers USA nationwide rankings for Reinsurance – a ranking he received again in 2015.  He has been elected to The International Who’s Who of Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyers (2005-2014) and to the World’s Leading Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers (2006-2014). He was selected as one of the “10 Most Admired Insurance Attorneys in America” in 2010 by Law360 and for Best of the Best USA (2009-2013) in Insurance & Reinsurance, which recognizes only 30 U.S. industry professionals.  He also is listed in the Best Lawyers in America for Insurance Law (2012-2015). Attisani received his JD, cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1991 and his BA, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Williams College in 1987.
