Dr. Brenda Herschbach Jarrell Named 2017 Attorney of the Year by LMG Life Sciences

Choate announced today that Dr. Brenda Herschbach Jarrell - co-chair of the Firm’s Life Sciences and Intellectual Property Groups – has been named Patent Strategy & Management Attorney of the Year for Massachusetts by LMG Life Sciences

The prestigious honor is awarded annually to the attorney that LMG determines, through extensive interviews of clients and peers, to be most highly regarded in providing valuable intellectual property counsel, where excellence requires not only sophisticated legal expertise, but also a deep understanding both of scientific disciplines and of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical marketplace. Dr. Jarrell was recognized, alongside honorees in life sciences transactional, regulatory, and litigation specialties, at LMG’s annual awards gala in New York City on September 13th.

“We are excited, but not surprised, that Brenda was named Attorney of the Year,” said Charles Cheever, co-managing partner at Choate. “This award reinforces what we and our clients already know – that Brenda is one the most sophisticated patent strategists in the life sciences market.”

An IP lawyer with keen business savvy, Dr. Jarrell’s extensive technical credentials make her well versed in a wide variety of technologies in the biotech, pharmaceutical, and specialty chemical industries. Dr. Jarrell has experience representing companies and institutions at all stages of the life sciences business lifecycle, as well as those who invest in them.

Dr. Jarrell received her JD, cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1998 and her PhD from the University of California, San Francisco in biochemistry and molecular biology in 1993.  She received an MA and a BA in chemistry, magna cum laude, from Harvard University in 1988.

Research for the awards is based on review of nearly 1000 interviews and surveys completed by partners active in the market. LMG speaks to clients and leading lawyers to help inform its research process, in addition to reviewing public information.
