 | June 11, 2013

Choate has been named in the 2013 edition of the IAM Patent 1000: The World's Leading Patent Practitioners as a "fantastic firm" whose "commitment to finding holistic business solutions ... accounts for a lot of the best work" in patent prosecution, litigation and licensing.

According to IAM Patent 1000, Choate's Intellectual Property Group "meets the needs of many of the country's most technically demanding patent holders" and "has developed the most focused and attentive patent group in the region."  IAM also noted that "litigation is adroitly dispatched by a stellar team."

Seven Choate attorneys – Dr. Brenda Herschbach Jarrell; Dr. Charles Lyon; Eric Marandett; Robert S. Frank, Jr.; Carlos Perez-Albuerne; and Karen Copenhaver – were selected for inclusion as top intellectual property practitioners.

Dr. Brenda Herschbach Jarrell, chair of Choate's IP Group and co-chair of the Life Sciences Group, leads a team that "has legendary prowess in life sciences."  IAM notes that Dr. Jarrell is "extremely good and astoundingly bright" and has "profound insight into commercial matters."  Dr. Charles Lyon is recognized as a "natural sciences expert" who "helps technology-based organizations to evaluate the strengths of their portfolios."

Eric Marandett, co-chair of Choate's Litigation Department and IP Litigation Group, was recognized as "probably the most efficient and responsive lawyer around."  Robert S. Frank, Jr. received "similar praise" and was noted for "an extensive practice that takes in a range of industries."  Carlos Perez-Albuerne was called "very impressive and massively intelligent," while "highly qualified and experienced practitioner" Karen Copenhaver "really stands out" as a "vital part of a strong corporate bench."

The IAM Patent 1000 is a guide to the top patent practitioners in key jurisdictions around the globe and is based on interviews with almost 1,500 attorneys at law, patent attorneys and in-house counsel.  According to IAM, "only those individuals identified by market sources for their exceptional skill sets and profound insights into patent matters feature in the IAM Patent 1000."
