Choate announced today that five partners – William B. Asher, Jr., Robert M. Buchanan, Jr., Karen F. Copenhaver, Peter M. Palladino and A. Hugh Scott – have been named a 2014 Boston “Lawyer of the Year” by The Best Lawyers in America®.  This designation is given to a single lawyer in each practice and metropolitan area, reflecting the high level of respect a lawyer has earned for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.

In addition to receiving five “Lawyers of the Year” designations, Choate had 44 attorneys – nearly 65 percent of the firm’s equity partners – selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2014.

William Asher was named Boston “Lawyer of the Year” for Corporate Compliance Law and Securities Regulation.  He is co-chair of the firm’s Business & Technology and Life Science Groups and has more than 30 years of experience in corporate finance and securities law, venture capital, mergers & acquisitions and corporate governance.

Robert Buchanan, Jr. was named Boston “Lawyer of the Year” for Antitrust Litigation.  He heads Choate’s Antitrust practice, where he counsels companies in strategically important transactions; analyzing and overseeing Hart-Scott-Rodino filings; and advocating before the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and various states.

Karen Copenhaver was named Boston “Lawyer of the Year” for Information Technology Law.  Her practice emphasizes technology transfer and licensing of intellectual property, particularly in the areas of patent licensing and software licensing and open source business models.  She is also the Linux Foundation’s director of intellectual property strategy.

Peter Palladino was named Boston “Lawyer of the Year” for Project Finance Law.  He is chair of the firm’s Business Department.  Palladino’s national finance practice includes acquisition finance with an emphasis on private equity sponsored acquisitions, leveraged cash flow, and asset–based lending and asset securitization for the media and communications, healthcare, sports and retail industries.

A. Hugh Scott was named Boston “Lawyer of the Year” for Insurance Law.  Scott’s insurance and reinsurance practice includes litigation and arbitration on behalf of insurance company disputes regarding coverage for a variety of claims such as hazardous waste sites, asbestos, business disparagement and directors & officers liability.
