Choate has been named in the inaugural edition of the IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners in recognition of its “fabulous national reputation” in patent prosecution, litigation, and licensing.  According to IAM Patent 1000, Choate’s Intellectual Property Group “approach[es] technical issues with a level of sophistication that trumps many of its competitors.”  Choate’s prosecution practice has an “extraordinary talent pool” and its “IP transactions team is as deep as any other in Boston.”

Seven Choate attorneys – Dr. Brenda Herschbach Jarrell; Dr. Charles Lyon; Eric Marandett; Robert S. Frank, Jr.; Carlos Perez-Albuerne; and Karen Copenhaver – were selected for inclusion as top patent practitioners.

Dr. Brenda Herschbach Jarrell, chair of Choate’s IP Group and co-chair of the Life Sciences Group, is “off-the-charts good” and “one of the most commercially minded patent prosecution experts anywhere.  She is charismatic, down to earth, super intelligent, and she works exceptionally hard.”  Dr. Charles Lyon is a “premier life sciences guy,” with a “particular specialty developing and managing portfolios relating to diagnostic tests, medical imaging and drug delivery.  He has a keen understanding of how to evaluate intellectual property and is a popular choice for IP due diligence assessments.”

Eric Marandett, chair of Choate’s IP Litigation Group, was recognized as a “savvy trial lawyer.”  The “inestimable” Robert S. Frank, Jr. is “a highly skilled and versatile commercial, antitrust, and IP litigator,” and Carlos Perez-Albuerne is an “experienced IT expert.”

The IAM Patent 1000 noted Karen F. Copenhaver “wins the market’s strong endorsement.”  Copenhaver is a “practical, accessible lawyer with few equals.”

Compiled by a team of researchers from Intellectual Asset Management magazine, the IAM Patent 1000 is a guide to top patent practitioners and leading patent law firms in 33 of the world’s most important jurisdictions and 16 US states.  Based on interviews with more than 900 individuals, the IAM Patent 1000 looks at the full range of patent services, from creation through management to dispute resolution.  According to IAM, “this unique guide is destined to become an indispensable source of information for the identification of world-class patent expertise.”
