The Drafting & Negotiating Patent Licensing Agreements conference, hosted by West Legalworks, covered an assortment of the finer points of the license negotiation process, including:  licensing after MedImmune, Sandisk and Quanta, common mistakes in license agreement drafting, patent licenses with universities, and international licensing.

Karen Copenhaver, partner in the Business & Technology Group, spoke on international licensing, focusing on:

  • Differences in the “default rules” of various countries
  • Potential for patent misuse and competition law violations
  • Governing law and dispute resolution
  • Issues that need to be addressed, such as export regulation compliance
