 | May 24, 2016

Choate announced today that six attorneys in the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) Group – Karen Copenhaver, Robert S. Frank Jr., Dr. William Haulbrook, Dr. Brenda Herschbach Jarrell, Dr. Charles Lyon, and Eric Marandett – have been named “IP Stars” by Managing Intellectual Property.  Copenhaver and Jarrell were also named to the “Top 250 Women in IP” in the world list, and Copenhaver was named a “Trademark Star.”

According to MIP, Choate “is a firm highly regarded for its attorneys’ technical expertise in life sciences, networking, semiconductor, materials and software, among other industries.” MIP noted that Choate has a “team that provides excellent service for businesses with local focus” and “... is a regional gem with an excellent pharma practice.  Earlier this year, Choate received top national rankings in bio/life sciences, patent prosecution, and patent litigation from MIP and was “Highly Recommended” in Massachusetts, which is the highest ranking a firm can attain.

Dr. Jarrell and Dr. Lyon co-chair the firm’s IP Group, which includes a team of nearly 40 IP attorneys, patent agents and staff scientists.  Choate offers a full range of IP services, including patent prosecution, post-grant proceedings, trademark prosecution and copyright protection.  The firm also conducts IP due diligence for investors and acquirers.

Eric Marandett co-chairs Choate’s IP Litigation Group, which has decades of litigation experience representing technology and life sciences companies in patent litigation, trade secrets and other IP disputes.

MIP’s research is based on nominations and independent interviews and surveys conducted with law firms and IP agencies, and their clients, in over 70 jurisdictions around the world. Inclusion is based solely on merit and recommendation by peers and clients.  This is the first year that MIP has focused on the world’s top women IP practitioners versus US practitioners only.  The surveys were conducted from November 2015 to February 2016.
