Sean Monahan Named a "40 Under 40 Legal Advisor" for 2015 by the M&A Advisor

Sean Monahan was selected for the “40 Under 40 Legal Advisor” Award by The M&A Advisor.  The prestigious list recognizes the professional accomplishments and contributions of emerging leaders in the M&A, financing and turnaround industries from around the country who have achieved a significant level of success while still under the age of 40.  Monahan will be honored at a reception on June 29 in New York City.

Monahan focuses his practice on complex financial transactions for banks and institutional investors, borrowers and issuers in a full range of financings.  He also represents trustees, debtors, examiners, secured creditors and unsecured creditors in a variety of creditor’s rights and insolvency matters, and handles commercial financing transactions for private equity funds and their portfolio companies.

Monahan has developed a unique specialty handling complex, multi-layered, high-profile financing deals in the sports and retail financing arenas.  He has closed over $10 billion worth of financing deals over the past five years including over 30 deals worth an aggregate $6 billion in the past two years.  His client list includes Bank of America, Citibank, JPMorgan Chase, Citizens, Salus Capital Partners and Wells Fargo among others.

“Sean is a talented young attorney with a unique expertise in both finance and bankruptcy law.  He understands our clients’ businesses from the inside out, and is highly skilled at handling even the most complex deals,” said Charles Cheever, co-managing partner of Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP. “We congratulate him on this honor, which is well deserved.”

The M&A Advisor has been recognizing US and international transactions, firms and dealmakers for their achievements for over a decade.  In 2010, they created the 40 Under 40 Awards to promote mentorship and professional development amongst emerging business leaders.  Winners were selected by an independent judging panel of prominent business leaders.

Monahan has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyers “Rising Star.”  He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Cornell Law School in 2004 and his B.A., summa cum laude, from Bates College in 1998.
