Elaine Bortman Joins Choate as Director of Legal Recruiting and Talent Development

Choate announced today that Elaine Bortman has joined the firm as the Director of Legal Recruiting and Talent Development, where she will lead the firm’s associate recruiting and talent development strategy and operations.  Bortman will work with the managing partners, practice groups and other directors and officers to recruit top-level talent to the firm, and to implement professional development programs and processes that reinforce Choate’s culture of excellence.

Before joining Choate, Ms. Bortman was Director of Practice Development and Operations at TruePoint, a Burlington, MA-based consulting firm focused on leadership development and organization effectiveness for Fortune 500 clients.  She also has 19 years of experience at McKinsey & Company where she served as a consultant, recruiting lead, and professional development manager, and built a core capability for the firm.  For the past four years, Ms. Bortman has also served as a career coach at the Harvard Business School, where she worked with students and alumni on the identification and pursuit of their career goals.

“We are excited to have a strong talent management professional like Elaine, who has deep experience in recruiting, professional development and performance management, join our team,” said Charles Cheever, co-managing partner at Choate.  “With her wealth of knowledge, consulting experience, and entrepreneurial skill set, she will play a critical role in helping us hire and develop the most talented lawyers to serve our clients.”

Choate was recently ranked number one in The American Lawyer’s 2015 Summer Associates satisfaction survey.  The firm received perfect scores of 5 on a 1-to-5 scale in each of the nine ratings metrics, and the associates unanimously rated Choate as a top place to work.

Ms. Bortman received her MS in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management and her BS, with honors, from Tufts University.
