Adam Bookbinder Named Go To Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Lawyer

Adam Bookbinder has been named a 2022 "Go To Lawyer for Cybersecurity and Data Privacy" by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. 

Co-chair of Choate’s Government Enforcement & Compliance Group, Adam advises clients on a wide range of cybersecurity and data privacy issues, including responding to cybersecurity incidents, conducting internal investigations and cybersecurity reviews, preparing incident response plans, complying with data privacy laws, interfacing with law enforcement agencies, and increasing preparedness. He also defends clients in class action data privacy and data misuse litigation.

Prior to private practice, Adam spent fourteen years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, and four years as chief of the Office’s Cybercrime Unit where he supervised the investigation and prosecution of computer and intellectual property crime, including computer intrusions, data breaches, network attacks, theft of trade secrets, copyright and trademark infringement, and online fraud. In this role, he worked with the FBI, Secret Service and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to identify and respond to priority cybercrime threats, and was chosen as the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s National Security Cyber Specialist, investigating cybercrime committed by nation-states and hackers affiliated with foreign terrorist organizations, and serving as the U.S. Attorney’s Office liaison to the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Security Division for cyber matters. Adam also served in the office’s Economic Crimes Unit, where he led financial fraud, securities fraud and healthcare fraud investigations, prosecutions and trials throughout his tenure in the office.

Adam has been recognized for his accomplishments in the area of privacy and data security by Best Lawyers in America and Legal 500, and has received the “Director’s Award for Superior Performance,” by the Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys.

Also of note, Adam served as the first chair of the Boston Bar Association’s (BBA) Privacy, Cybersecurity and Digital Law Section Steering Committee, and continues to be a member of the Steering Committee. He is a former co-chair of the BBA’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Conference Advisory Committee and a former member of the Criminal Law Section Steering Committee. 

In addition to his professional distinctions, Adam is a regular guest lecturer on the topic of cybersecurity and data privacy at MIT, Boston College, and at other colleges and universities, as well as for the BBA and other major conferences.
