Jack Cinquegrana wrote “A Smart Alternative to Mandatory Sentencing” in Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, where he explains why mandatory minimum sentencing for drug offenses continues to be a costly mistake.  He discusses the insufficient evidence supporting a link between longer sentencing and less crime, the extra societal costs that ultimately fall on taxpayers and the lack of discretion judges have to impose individualized sentencing.
