Charles E. Lyon, DPhil Named a “Boston Rising Star” by the National Law Journal
Charles E. Lyon, DPhil, co-chair of the Intellectual Property Group at Choate, has been named a “Boston Rising Star” by the National Law Journal. Dr. Lyon was one of 40 lawyers under the age of 40 who was selected for the Boston Rising Stars list of the most promising attorneys in the region. Inclusion on the prestigious list was based on professional excellence, strong leadership, practice expertise and civic commitment.
At Choate, Dr. Lyon has led or been involved with hundreds of IP due diligences on behalf of investors, investment banks and potential acquirers or partners. He routinely provides opinions regarding validity and infringement in the context of product clearances and abbreviated new drug applications. He is particularly sought after for his ability to clearly communicate issues that are most likely to affect the risks and overall valuation of the underlying transaction or product.
Dr. Lyon also develops IP strategies and prosecutes patents for clients with a particular expertise developing portfolios relating to diagnostic tests and devices, immunotherapies, vaccines and drug delivery. He has also worked extensively in the areas of polymer chemistry and catalysis.
Dr. Lyon has served on Choate’s Hiring Committee and as a peer reviewer for the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center Small Business Matching Grant Program.
Dr. Lyon received his JD from Boston College Law School in 2006, his DPhil in chemistry from Oxford University in 1999 and his MA and BA, first class honors, in natural sciences from Cambridge University (2000 and 1996).
