Lawyers for Civil Rights Honors Choate with Award for Pro Bono and Community Service

The Lawyers for Civil Rights Boston has honored a team of Choate attorneys with its 2019 Award for Pro Bono and Community Service for the Firm’s pro bono impact litigation against the Trump administration on behalf of immigrants seeking to retain Temporary Protected Status protections. A team of attorneys accepted the award during the organization’s annual Civil Rights Reception on June 13th at The State Room in Boston.

For the past year, Choate has led litigation efforts with co-counsel at Lawyers for Civil Rights to keep Temporary Protected Status immigration protections in place for El Salvadorans, Haitians, and Hondurans. The Firm filed suit on behalf of individual TPS recipients and immigrant aid groups in Massachusetts in February 2018 and successfully opposed the government’s motion to have the case dismissed at the outset.  That court decision has served as a precedent for similar Temporary Protected Status litigation across the country.
