Choate Named to IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals for IP Prosecution, Transactions, and Litigation

Choate has been named in the IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals 2016 edition as a “venerable outfit” that “is a top performer in all areas.”  Choate was one of only four firms to be “Highly Recommended” in the IP Prosecution category in Massachusetts.  Choate also received top rankings in the IP Transactions and Litigation categories.  According to IAM, the firm offers “client-oriented services and great knowledge of the law, specifically in life sciences patent litigation” and has an “IP practice which is better than most boutiques.”

Six Choate attorneys – Carlos Perez-Albuerne, Karen Copenhaver, Robert Frank, Jr., Dr. Brenda Herschbach Jarrell, Dr. Charles Lyon, and Eric Marandett – were also selected for inclusion in the prestigious ranking. IAM noted that Choate’s “lawyers often brainstorm with in-house counsel to find optimum solutions to potential problems.”

The “impressive” Brenda Jarrell, co-chair of Choate’s Intellectual Property (IP) and Life Sciences Groups, “has been a deep font of wisdom in the life sciences for decades.” Charles Lyon, co-chair of the IP Group, is a “due diligence king” who “has assisted thousands of investors, investment banks, and potential acquirers and partners. Also a renowned prosecutor, he is particularly well distinguished in the life sciences.”

“Peers line up to praise Eric Marandett” who co-chairs Choate’s IP Litigation Group and is  “a supremely talented attorney” with a “blend of both litigation competency and business counseling ability.  He is a step ahead of other litigators.”  Carlos Perez-Albuerne is “an excellent lawyer at the vanguard of the next generation of IP giants” while Robert Frank, Jr. “never fails in bet-the-company patent infringement showdowns.”  “Software and complex licensing deals are the forte of Karen Copenhaver” who “knows how to communicate clearly and concisely with clients.”

The IAM Patent 1000 is a guide to the top patent professionals in key jurisdictions around the globe.  Based on interviews with almost 1,500 attorneys at law firms, patent attorneys, and in-house counsel, individuals qualify for a listing when they receive sufficient positive feedback from peers and clients with knowledge of their practice and the market within which they operate.  Rankings are based on depth of expertise, market presence, and the level of work on which attorneys are typically engaged.
