Choate Named to IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners for IP Prosecution, Transactions and Litigation

Choate has been named in the 2015 edition of the IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners as among the “leaders in the field...delivering top-quality patent services” with “the deepest bench” in Massachusetts.  Choate’s was one of only four firms to be “Highly Recommended” in the IP Prosecution category.  Choate also received top rankings in the IP Transactions and Litigation categories.  IAM noted that Choate’s “sophisticated cast of attorneys excels at building lasting relationships; when clients come on board, they are treated to future-proofed counsel tailored to their long-term commercial objectives.”

Seven Choate attorneys – Dr. Brenda Herschbach Jarrell, Dr. Charles Lyon, Karen Copenhaver, Eric Marandett, Robert Frank Jr., and Carlos Perez-Albuerne – were selected for inclusion as “top patent professionals” and among “the world’s leading patent experts.”

According to the IAM Patent 1000, the “tremendous” Brenda Jarrell is “widely respected as a life sciences doyenne,” and “she is extremely dynamic and an absolutely superb lawyer.”  Charles Lyon is a “due diligence king” who is highly skilled at “assessing the landscape and dispensing crucial, cost-effective advice.”  Former IBM counsel Karen Copenhaver is a “software licensing maven.” Eric Marandett was called “one of the finest lawyers in Boston” and a “supremely skilled litigator known for his herculean efforts on behalf of clients in the courtroom.”  Robert Frank, Jr. is an “analytical all-star” who is “frequently enlisted as lead counsel in make-or-break infringement suits.”  And Carlos Perez-Albuerne “never shies away from taking a leading role in the toughest of disputes.”

The IAM Patent 1000 is a guide to the top patent professionals in key jurisdictions around the globe.  Based on interviews with almost 1,500 attorneys at law firms, patent attorneys, and in-house counsel, individuals qualify for a listing when they receive sufficient positive feedback from peers and clients with knowledge of their practice and the market within which they operate.  According to IAM, “only those individuals identified by market sources for their exceptional skill sets and profound insights into patent matters feature in the IAM Patent 1000.”
