Nancy Braman

Nancy Braman litigates high-stakes patent infringement and intellectual property disputes for life sciences technology companies nationwide. A registered patent attorney, she has also advised clients on patent procurement, portfolio development, and licensing strategies for complex life sciences technologies. Nancy brings a unique combination of scientific, legal, and real-world experience to her practice. Raised in Alaska, she spent six seasons as a commercial fisherman in the frigid waters of Bristol Bay. She holds degrees in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, and Microbiology, combining deep scientific training with practical litigation and counseling experience to help clients navigate complex intellectual property challenges.

Prior to joining Choate, Nancy practiced as an attorney and patent agent at a global law firm and reported extensively on intellectual property law and policy as a journalist for the largest online intellectual property publication in the world. Additionally, Nancy maintains a strong pro bono practice. Her work includes assisting clients fleeing domestic violence, facing eviction, seeking asylum in the United States, and enduring inhumane prison conditions, as well as handling prison-related FOIA matters. She has been recognized for her service as a recipient of the Massachusetts Pro Bono Honor Roll and High Honor Roll awards.

In 2026, Nancy will be recognized at the Supreme Court of the United States as a 2025 Pegasus Scholar for the American Inns of Court and British Pegasus Scholarship Trust. During her time in the United Kingdom, she studied the English, Scottish, and Northern Irish legal systems and served as an ambassador for the American legal system. Her studies included spending time at the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, where she observed the work of the Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Hamblen of Kersey on the landmark AI patentability case, Emotional Perception AI Limited v Comptroller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks. She also met with judges and prosecutors for the International Criminal Court (ICC) and Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
