Choate Pro Bono Team Files Amicus Brief to Preserve Massachusetts Gun Safety Laws

A Choate Pro Bono team filed an amicus brief on behalf of Giffords, a national organization working to preserve gun safety laws. The brief was filed to the First Circuit in connection with Granata v. Healey. In this case, the petitioners are challenging a series of handgun regulations under the Second Amendment as a result of NYSRPA v. Bruen. The brief details the historical and doctrinal reasons to uphold the constitutionality of these regulations, which require guns sold commercially in Massachusetts to be serialized, made of quality material, and not prone to accidental discharge.

Julia Hesse and JP Jaillet led the Choate team, which included Sara Ellis, David Goldman, Genesis Guzman, Madeleine Kausel, Stephen Meredith, Brian Lenihan, Kevin Schascheck, and Jennie Wilusz. The brief can be viewed here.
